Ruth McLaughlin

My watercolors are mostly objective but slightly abstracted views of my environment. My block prints are cityscapes also from the area where I live--Greenwich Village in NYC. The very nature of wood blockprint forces the realistic artist to abstract in unforeseen attitudes, which is a tantalizing contrast to photo realism. In a universe of exceedingly sophisticated facade, I would like to direct the art viewer to to a more organic, clear esthetic presentation.

My work is divided in the following pages according to subject matter and media:

Botanicals, prints, sketches, landscapes and still life.
